On Sunday afternoon, the 2014 Mendon Vikings finally opened their season at Basket Road Park in Webster. A cold, snowy and rainy spring has had all spring sports stuck indoors to prepare for the season. Sunday marked the first time Mendon has been on a field this season.
Mendon ran into a strong pitcher from Webster Thomas, Logan Harasta. Harasta, who is headed to the University of Buffalo, kept Mendon off balance all day and held the Vikings to just 3 runs on 5 hits. The Titans managed 7 runs on some timely 2 out hitting on 3 different occasions.
Dane VanBenthuysen was 2 for 3 at the plate for Mendon and played a strong centerfield. Samuel Anaya also collected a double and a single at the plate.
Mendon is 0 - 1 on the season and travels to Batavia tomorrow to take on the Blue Devils at Dwyer Park at 4:30.
Good luck this season Vikings!
