Vikings late rally upends Waterford Union

In their final game at ESPN WWS Disney resort, the Vikings showed tremendous resolve battling to a gritty 6 - 3 victory over Waterford Union HS from Wisconsin.  Mitchell Breitenbach started the game on the hill for Mendon and threw 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits.  Trailing 2-1 in the 6th inning,  Mendon came up with a late rally.  A monstrous 2 out 2 strike single to center by Ryan Amoroso plated the tying and go ahead runs. Waterford was able to manufacture the tying run in the bottom of the 6th.  The Vikings came to bat in the 7th in a tie game 3-3 and that's when things broke open.  Samuel Anaya led off the inning with a hard hit ball that the shortstop couldn't handle.  Anaya stole second and Zach Troiani was intentionally walked for the second time in the game.  Sam Martinez executed a perfect sacrifice bunt and Mendon was set up. John Ciaccio then came through with a huge hit of his own, a hard single through the left side plating 2 runs and staking Mendon to a 2 run lead.  After a stolen base by Ciaccio and an errant throw by the catcher, Ciaccio stood on 3rd base with 1 out.  Nate Dickinson delivered a sac fly to right field and the Vikings had grown the lead to 6-3.
Kevin Berardino finished the game for the Vikings earning his second win on the trip.  Kevin entered the game on the mound to start the 4th inning.  Berardino quickly worked through the 4th, 5th and 6th innings allowing only 2 base runners and 1 run.  Kevin closed out the 7th inning with the support of his defense as Ryan Swenson turned a beautiful 4-4-3 double play. The game ended on a pop out to 3rd base and the Vikings had completed a perfect road trip to Disney.  Mendon won all 3 of their games on the trip and displayed tremendous fight throughout the entire week.  The Vikings now stand at 4-1 on the season and fly home to play Brockport in a non league game on Tuesday.
