On a beautiful Thursday afternoon, Mendon jumped out to a commanding 10-0 lead vs. Batavia. Mendon took advantage of many Batavia miscues in the field to stake themselves to what appeared to be a comfortable lead. Things were going well as Mitch Breitenbach breezed through 3 innings on the mound allowing no runs on 2 hits. John Ciaccio followed Breitenbach and delivered 2 solid innings of his own allowing just 1 run.
Things turned bad for the Vikings in the 6th inning when Batavia mounted a huge rally behind a series of Mendon walks and miscues...9 runs later, Mendon was in a tie game!
The Vikings threatened in the 6th and had a runner on 3rd but couldn't scratch a run across. In the top of the 7th, with momentum firmly swung to the Devils side, Mendon surrendered 3 more runs to fall behind 13-10. In the bottom of the 7th the Vikings fought back and brought the tying run to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Today, however, was not meant to be as the game ended on a hard line out to the right center gap. The 13 unanswered runs will serve as a huge wake up call for Mendon as they move forward. Mendon is now 5-2 and hosts Canandaigua Friday at home.
