On Monday afternoon, Mendon jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Connor Winn singled, Samuel Anaya walked and Zach Troiani doubled home both runs. The lead held into the third inning when a 4 run outburst by Aquinas, highlighted by 2 home runs, put the Vikings behind 4-2.
A two out RBI double by Ryan Amoroso in the top of the 4th inning trimmed the deficit to 1.
AQ answered back again in the 5th when a 2 out triple followed by a single grew their lead to 5 - 3. Mendon kept fighting and scored a run in the 5th on an RBI single by Jake Volker to cut the deficit back to 1.
With a two on and two out jam in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Vikings called on left hander, Dane Van Benthuysen, to keep the score close and give them one last crack at a comeback. Dane came through with a strikeout to end the threat and the Vikings came to bat in the 7th.
Zach Troiani hammered a one out double in the gap and the Vikings were alive...however a hard ground out and a strike out ended Mendon's bid for another comeback victory as AQ won the game 5-4.
Mendon next plays at home on Wednesday vs. Pittsford Sutherland.
