On a windy Thursday afternoon, the Vikings squeaked out a memorable win. Down 8 - 0 in the 2nd innings vs. Batavia, we had our work cut out for us. Behind RBI singles by Sam Anaya, John Ciaccio and Connor Winn, Mendon cut into the lead and after 3 innings Mendon was back in the game only down 8 -7. Batavia quickly responded putting up 2 runs in the 4th on a Homerun by #9 Swimline. Again Mendon quickly answered and came all the way back to take the lead when Mark Davis smashed a LONG 2 run homerun to dead center field giving Mendon our first lead at 11 -10. Resilient Batavia put up 2 more runs in the 5th and 4 more in the 6th. Unwilling to pack it in, Mendon rallied to cut the lead back to one with a 4 run 6th of their own Sam Anaya recorded his second triple and 4th hit of the day in the inning. In the 7th, with Mendon trailing 16 - 15 and Batavia runners on 1st & 3rd and no one out, Coach Amoroso called on Max owens to get out of the jam. Max responded by holding Batavia at 16 and the Vikings came up for their last licks. A Jake Volker lead-off single gave the Vikings hope, but things changed raplidly when a strikem' out throwem' out put Mendon down to their last out. Anaya worked the count full and drew a critical 2 out walk. Zach Troiani followed with a booming triple to center field and the Vikings were alive! With Mark Davis at the plate and a 1 - 0 count, the pitch got away from Batavia's catcher and Troiani slid into home giving Mendon an improbable walk-off win!
Mendon improved its record to 3-2.
