Mendon pounded out 16 hits on Thursday afternoon en route to a 13-8 victory at West Irondequoit High School. Bo Schmeihausen got the start for Mendon and pitched the first 2 innings. John Ciaccio followed Bo and gave the Vikings 3 solid innings of his own. Sam Martinez came in in the 6th and pounded the strike zone! Sam efficiently worked the last 2 innings facing only 7 batters allowing no hits.
On the offensive side, the Vikings were led by a host of players: Kendall Mirsky, John Ciaccio and Ryan Swenson all banged out three hits apiece. Swenson tripled in the second inning and eventually scored to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead. The eagles got a big 2 out hit in the 2nd and cut the lead to 3-2. Mendon quickly answered in the 3rd and put up a fourth run. Irondequoit put together a rally in the bottom of the third, however, and took a 5-4 lead. That's when the Mendon offense kicked into high gear behind three, 2 out hits, 1 by Nate Dickinson, another by Swenson and the big blow came off of the bat of Mirsky when he doubled home three on a bases loaded double his second 3 RBI double in the last 2 games. At the end of 4 the Vikings lead 10-6. Mendon added another 3 runs and Irondequoit 2 more and in the end we had a 13-8 final. Offense was the flavor of the day today and Mendon had enough to get the job done. The Vikings are now 8-3 on the season and host the Brighton barons Friday at 4:30.
